Hmmm. I finished this edit on the 24th and even created a post but didn’t finish writing it … and then life happened … and then I got distracted by another photography project … and then the deadline for linking up came and went … and then …
Well, I thought I might as well publish what I’ve got which is simply the before and after shots.
I can’t remember how I edited this exactly. I used PSE 8 mostly to add the texture and quote but ended up finishing the edit in Lightroom.
Taken with a Blackberry Bold and edited using Lightroom.
Even though the males in my house outnumber me 3 to 1, finding something pink wasn’t a big stretch for me. Deciding on which pink thing to photograph was a different matter. So I gave in and indulged myself today. I went around the house photographing anything pink.
I think I could’ve gone on and on but … uhm … the kids got hungry/bored. I still haven’t completely decided which photo to edit but I am leaning towards the measuring cup guy in the cupboard full of glasses because it needs the most work and I’m thinking of experimenting with textures. But don’t hold me to it : )
I had only one shot as of this morning and it wasn’t even originally intended for this photo challenge. But then my hubby put these in the oven …
Nothing like chocolate chip oatmeat cookies to get me inspired. I think I might have eaten half of them today.
I photoshopped the number on this wall. For the story behind it, you'll have to go to my other blog ...
This is an icky photo in more ways than one. I didn't bother to wipe the cans down nor did I get sharp focus on any of the cans. I just took a peek at Ashley's interpretation and am now wishing I had reshot this.

The boys working on a masterpiece with their blocks this aft.
Visit Ramblings and Photos by Ashley Sisk to see how others interpreted this week’s themes.
Here are the themes for next weekend’s challenge:
- Capture the Sky (Exploring with a Camera prompt)
- Everyday (February 2011 Photo Hunt item)
- Furry (February 2011 Photo Hunt item)
- Life (Sarah’s suggestion – hopefully we’ll see signs of “new life” this week)
- Blurred (Sarah’s suggestion – could be bokeh, motion blur, unfocused shot, etc.)
I’ve been feeling a little “off” the last few days … I’m very behind on blogging and visiting. I’m feeling a little better today so I wanted to share my edits of the Valentine’s tails that my sons gave each other.
LittleR Dude - SOOC
LittleR Dude - LR3 edit
Little Dude - SOOC
Little Dude - LR3 edit
The changes are subtle on both photos … because I just wasn’t feeling very creative the last few days. My main goal (aside from the usual white balance, exposure, brightness, etc. tweaks) was to sharpen the words on the valentine stickers without affecting the rest of the photo. I used the very handy Adjustment Brush tool to do this and customized the settings until I was happy with the outcome.
For the second photo, I also did a slight crop and removed some of the crumbs on the chair using the Spot Removal tool. There are two ways to remove blemishes in LR3, Clone or Heal. Either way it’s super easy to do but I tend to Clone things out. Unlike PSE, you select the area you want to retouch first and the program automatically selects an “clean” area nearby for you. Sometimes, the program gets it right. If not, you can make adjustments to the spot circles. You can move them around, change the size and opacity at any time. I love this tool!
Looking forward to seeing your edits but it might take me a few days to catch up. Happy Saturday, all : )
If you’ve been following this blog for some time, you’ll know that the hubby and I don’t celebrate Valentine’s. It goes without saying that there’s a lot of LOVE in our home … romance, perhaps not so much … but love, a big yes! Here is an example.
A few days ago, I found this attached to LittleR Dude’s bottom. I thought it was cute and took a quick picture.

Later, as the boys were having lunch, I noticed this on his brother’s bottom.
Little Dude - SOOC
The boys, it seems, had given each other Valentine’s Tails. LittleR Dude put one on his older brother’s bottom and Little Dude returned the favour. Now, that’s love.
The hubby is home again at last. He took the red eye back and stepped in the door as the boys and I were waking up. So he went straight to bed while I tried to keep the boys quiet. By afternoon, he was feeling good enough to bake cookies for us and gave me a bit of a break. I used my alone time to get reacquainted with my Nikon D70 manual. I had tried reading it a few times in the past but I might as well have been reading a book written in French. Words looked familiar but my brain couldn’t process any of the information at all.
I don’t know why but this time around something clicked. My eyes didn’t glaze over like they used to and I got through the section on setting my Preset White Balance without much effort. This is something I struggle with especially this winter with all the snow we’ve had. These are my before and after sooc shots of the view out my window:
And, look at that! The snow isn’t the colour of pee on the right. Both images are slightly underexposed but it was a grey day and I haven’t gotten to the chapter on Exposure yet.
